Riccardo Fiorista

Riccardo Fiorista is a graduate student in transportation whose work establishes frameworks for designing future transportation systems under incomplete information and competing objectives. These systems require solving NP-hard optimization problems ranging from network design to routing and fleet deployment, often in competitive markets where operators and users lack complete information about each other. He integrates multi-agent game theory with a co-design framework grounded in category theory to model how various stakeholders respond in these opaque transportation markets and how operator strategies and user behavior co-evolve. As a MathWorks Fellow, Riccardo will develop modular MATLAB-based frameworks, leveraging Simulink and RoadRunner, for simulating mixed cooperative and competitive transportation ecosystems. This research could establish foundations for holistic planning of future transportation systems by quantifying how co-evolution and coordination affect system equity, reliability, and resilience.
