OGE Fellowships

Additional graduate fellowships are available through individual departments and the MIT Office of Graduate Education (OGE). Students are encouraged to connect with their department’s academic leadership to explore opportunities aligned with their research interests and goals.

Program for Exemplary Mentorship (PEM)

The Program for Exemplary Mentoring (PEM) is dedicated to advancing engineering excellence by identifying, supporting, and empowering top doctoral scholars. The program is open to PhD-level students across engineering disciplines. Through world-class mentorship, robust financial support, and a dynamic academic community, PEM provides the resources our scholars need to thrive—fueling groundbreaking research, leadership, and global impact.

Nomination Process

For most of our fellowships, each academic department nominates students who demonstrate exceptional talent and who meet any criteria specific to each fellowship. The School of Engineering then selects the most outstanding candidates. The annual nomination timeline for most fellowship opportunities is in the early spring, unless otherwise specified.

Current and incoming students interested in learning more about these fellowships and the nomination process are encouraged to contact the graduate academic administration in their academic department. Students cannot apply or nominate themselves for fellowships, only departmental leaders can submit nominations.
