Maria Jose Chiang Rebatta has been recognized by her team for consistently going above and beyond to support CTL with her incredible eye for design and visual storytelling.She’s the go-to person when anyone needs help polishing a PowerPoint, creating visuals, or pulling together something that looks professional and engaging. She just makes things better. Most recently, she took the lead on designing the beautiful retirement book for Jim Rice, turning a collection of messages into a meaningful, cohesive tribute that really captured the heart of our community. Her work always adds that extra layer of thoughtfulness and impact, and she does it all with generosity and care.

Describe your role and responsibilities at MIT:
I lead academic collaborations with institutions and governments in emerging economies, focusing on alleviating poverty, supporting communities, and driving innovation in the micro and small business sector. As part of this work, I organize local and international events for the LIFT Lab, bringing together various stakeholders of the micro-retailer ecosystem. I also lead marketing and communications for both laboratories, including photography, print and digital design. Above all, I am dedicated to supporting my teams and creating a nurturing environment.
What is your favorite part of your job:
Visiting the micro and small business owners involved in our projects and building friendships with local institutions and governments.
Do you have any hobbies or interests:
I learned how to sail last year through MIT, and it has become a challenging but rewarding hobby! When I’m not on the water, you can usually find me out for a run, taking photos of my loved ones, or dancing at any and all local live music events. I am also a certified hot yoga instructor and will be starting to teach in Boston very soon!
