Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Ph.D. in applied physics, Stanford University
Dirk Englund will join the faculty in January 2013 as an Assistant Professor. He received his BS in Physics from the California Institute of Technology and an MS in Electrical Engineering and PhD in Applied Physics from Stanford University in 2008. His postdoctoral work at Harvard focused on experimental and theoretical quantum optics. He was assistant professor of electrical engineering and of applied physics at Columbia University from 2010 to 2013. His research leverages semiconductor technology to develop quantum technologies for information processing and precision measurements. He has published over 30 journal articles and several book chapters and patents. Recent recognitions include the 2012 DARPA Young Faculty Award, the 2012 IBM Faculty Award, the 2011 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, and the 2011 Sloan Research Fellowship in Physics.
